I’ve been having a problem for some time now and have not been able to fix it. Every time I go to “Link to Current Months Giving Data File” under “Support” I always get the same error message. It is listed below.“The File you selected (gives location of the file) is not in the proper format for a support data file.”
It then goes on to tell me I must have opened it in Excel and then resaved it, but I haven’t. I open the email and double click the attachments and then save them to the hard drive directly. Then I go into MRP, start it and then try to link to the file. The rest of it seems to be working fine, I just can’t use this option! What am I doing wrong?
Two possible ways this can happen.
1. You are not using the latest version of MRP.
MRP reads the CSV support file provided by AGWM. Periodically AGWM changes the file structure of the CVS file. Usually this is to include more information for your use. When this happens, AGWM lets us know and we update MRP before the new file format is released. Right now (2/15/10) MRP (2.1a) will read all different varieties of the CSV files AGWM has used. This means you can still read your old support files and also the latest ones.
2. You are opening and saving in Excel
If you already have the latest version of MRP installed, then you may be experiencing a different problem. When you double click on the attachment in your email, most computers will open the file in MS Excel. That is no problem. However, when you go to close the file, Excel asks if you want to save. Being a good Christian, of course you want to be saved! Problem is Excel's save changes the file structure.
So, instead of double-clicking on the attachment in your email, do a save directly from your email.
Welcome to our home on the web. We trust you will be back from time to time to see what is going on.
